Frederica Mathewes-Green on Christ’s Smashing of Death

Khouria Frederica Mathewes-Green

We were enslaved to sin and death and in the grip of the evil one, who desires only our destruction. Christ came and, taking on our nature, lived and died as one of us. In profound humility, He suffered in the flesh. But once inside the realm of death, He smashed it by his power. He is “the Author of Life” (Acts 3:15) and so “it was not possible for Him to be held by [death]” (Acts 2:24).
